UNIFIL’s mandate in southern Lebanon is expected to expire at the end of the year under a UN Security Council resolution, after years of operating to monitor the implementation of Resolution 1701.

UN Security Council starts talks on fate of peacekeeping force in Lebanon

When asked for comment on whether the US wanted to wind down UNIFIL, a State Department spokesperson said: “We don't comment on ongoing UN Security Council negotiations."
