Charlie Kirk, a prominent ally of US President Donald Trump, was killed by Tyler Robinson in front of thousands as he debated students at Utah Valley University.

Family members, lawmakers and immigrant advocates called for an independent investigation after an ICE officer fatally shot a longtime Houston resident during a targeted enforcement operation.

The evidence was presented during the second day of a preliminary hearing in Provo, Utah, in which prosecutors are trying to convince District Court Judge Tony Graf to bring Tyler Robinson to trial.

Police said shots were fired from a moving vehicle at another nearby car earlier Monday. Officers from the Yoav Unit operating in the area identified the suspected vehicle and began searching for it.

Seven of the victims are in stable condition, while the eighth, a 21-year-old woman, is in critical condition. 

Recommendations in the inspector general's report covered such areas as information sharing and addressing "line of sight vulnerabilities" ahead of events.

Tasnim News, which is an IRGC-affiliated network, reported that “two members of Iran’s IRGC were killed and two others were injured in an ‘armed terrorist attack.'"

All the victims - four women and two men - were employees of the facility. The man's three-month-old daughter and the mother are safe.

There were no World Cup games being screened at the time of the shooting, with the only match of the day in the tournament finishing around 2 p.m. local time.

Media reports said the victim was the father of a state witness in a major organized crime case, though authorities have not confirmed the alleged connection.
