Human rights advocates have similarly reported a global rise in Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian bias, and antisemitism since the latest eruption of conflict in the Middle East.

In his speech, Spielberg lamented polling showing high rates of antisemitism on college campuses. He also condemned other forms of hate, including anti-Arab, anti-Muslim and anti-Sikh discrimination.

The increased transparency comes as students’ complaints of antisemitism and Islamophobia on campuses surrounding the war continue to ramp up.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations advocacy group says it received 3,578 complaints during the last three months of 2023.

Groups identified as extremist, following a "robust" assessment over the next few weeks, will not be subject to any action under criminal laws and will still be permitted to hold demonstrations.

The UK has seen an outburst of antisemitism and islamophobia, including accusations against Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's own government, leading to a new funding commitment to address the issue.

A survey conducted from Feb. 16-18 by Savanta showed that 29% of Britons believed the Conservatives had a problem with Islamophobia, the most of any major political party.
