Four firefighting aircraft were operating at the scene, with the preliminary reports saying that the fire was expanding fast and fears of it reaching the homes of the settlement.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. The hotel is located in central Kolkata, an area known for budget accommodations and restaurants.

In a separate incident, six people were injured in a car accident between three vehicles on Highway 92 near the Sea of Galilee.
