Around 900,000 Palestinians have evacuated Gaza City since mid-August, with approximately 100,000 reportedly evacuating over the past week, the Israeli military said.

Hamas's efforts to prevent civilians from evacuating northern Gaza are failing, as thousands continue to head south daily amid Israeli military maneuvers.

"This is a rapidly moving storm - nearly twice the average speed - with strong intensity and a broad area of impact," the national weather forecast agency said.

In recent days, the IDF has expanded the scope of strikes across Gaza City, targeting more than 140 sites each night.

At the initial stages of evacuations a couple of weeks ago, only around 70,000 civilians fled. By early last week, the numbers had risen to around 250,000.

A massive WWII-era US bomb discovered in Hong Kong triggered the evacuation of thousands before being safely defused by police bomb experts in a high-risk operation.

Authorities established a 500-meter security perimeter in the densely populated district. Police officers went door-to-door, instructing residents to leave their homes immediately.

"Once more than half a million Palestinians [have evacuated], criticism of the Hamas leadership will intensify to the point where signs of its collapse may begin to appear."

Earlier, IDF Spokesperson in Arabic Avichay Adraee issued another evacuation order for Gaza City residents to move southward. According to him, more than 250,000 Gazans have already left the city.

Special Unit 504, also known as "the IDF's Mossad," has handled much of the operation given its expertise in Arabic and Palestinian culture.
