For the past few years, I have been struggling to comprehend how the October 7 Hamas-led terrorist attacks on Israel turned so many liberal and progressive groups against the Jewish state.

An AMCHA Initiative study examining 278 university events found a stark link between pre-Oct. 7 support for boycotting Israel and accusations of genocide in academic programming.

They insist it is possible, indeed necessary, to be both pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian because the two peoples are bound together. On the surface, this sounds reasonable. 

The report highlights how complex procedural rules, low participation rates in internal meetings, and strong pressure to conform allow small, highly organized groups to bypass the wider membership.

The study was conducted by the Olam, an institutional intelligence platform for Israel and the global Jewish economy, and published in early August.
