Iranian-backed militias in Iraq, who have been targeting the Kurdistan Region with drones and missiles, were likely behind a drone attack that killed a French soldier.

The strike hit the diplomatic support center, a logistical hub for US diplomats near Baghdad airport and Iraqi military bases, the Post reported.

Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar also came under attack, as Oman's Muscat airport limited private jet flights into the Gulf State's capital.

The attack was the first time the embassy had been fired on in more than two years.

Mohammed, who co-founded and directed the Organization of Women’s Freedom in Iraq, was rushed to hospital where she perished from her wounds, according to local reports and Amnesty International.

Iraq took in the detainees in an operation arranged with the United States after Kurdish forces retreated and shut down camps and prisons that had housed IS suspects for nearly a decade.
