In the past decade everyone has been searching for the secret behind Korean women’s glowing skin – and now Hollywood has joined in. The latest trend, REJURAN, has long since stopped being “just another treatment.” When a mega-star like Miley Cyrus pauses a show to recommend an aesthetic treatment, or when Kim Kardashian reveals it in an episode of “The Kardashians,” it’s clear that this is a completely new category.

Jennifer Aniston joined in as well, stating in an interview that this is one of the methods that restored her skin’s youthful texture. And then came Bar Refaeli, who ignited public interest after showing the results of the treatment on Instagram just a few days after undergoing a series of injections.

Refaeli did not hesitate to reveal the injection marks — small red dots that disappeared within hours. The next day she already appeared at a launch event at Ramat Aviv Mall with skin that looked supple, glowing and free of any sign. And as always, when she shares a new treatment, the buzz isn’t far behind.

From the War in Ukraine — to the Faces of Hollywood Stars

“It’s important to emphasize that this is not a new substance,” Dr. Alon Schneider, an expert in aesthetic medicine, hair restoration and regenerative medicine from Nordica Clinic in Jaffa, tells Walla! Health. “It’s a substance that has existed for years in the research world. It was mainly used to treat wounds and scars, and only recently, in the past 3–4 years, it has trickled into the world of aesthetics.”

“We accumulated a lot of experience with this substance while treating Ukrainian soldiers who were injured in the war with Russia. These injections worked wonders on their skin. Scars and skin defects disappeared as if they had never existed,” adds Dr. Schneider. “Many women who underwent a C-section come to our clinic. Usually the stitches done at the hospital are not done cleanly, which creates unattractive scars in the vaginal area. With this substance, we know how to eliminate the scars.”

Dr. Schneider recommends that anyone undergoing an aesthetic surgical procedure come for preventive REJURAN treatment 10–12 days after the surgical procedure. “It’s important to perform the treatment immediately after the surgery in order to treat the scar at the earliest stage and reduce the possibility of scarring or pigmentation.”

Not Filling, but Repair

The uniqueness of REJURAN lies in the fact that it changes everything we thought about anti-aging treatments. Instead of a treatment whose goal is to “fill,” tighten or paralyze the muscles, this is a biological process of tissue repair. The main substance, PDRN, is derived from DNA segments of salmon fish — a molecule known in regenerative medicine even before it gained aesthetic fame.

The discovery that salmon DNA is 97% similar to that of humans is what led Korean researchers to understand its potential. These are molecules capable of communicating with skin cells, encouraging the repair of cellular damage, reducing inflammation and helping restore the tissue from within. This is why the treatment does not create an “injected” or swollen appearance — but a gradual and natural change.

“The treatment is excellent for those who are looking for a subtle yet noticeable change,” Dr. Leavit Ackerman, a dermatologist and owner of a successful clinic network, tells Walla! Health. “This is currently the most advanced technology in the anti-aging arena. The polynucleotides encourage the production of collagen and elastin, improve hydration and give the skin a vital and refreshed appearance. It is a very safe treatment, with natural results that you can see and feel.”

Structural Repair, Not a Cosmetic Effect

After the injection, the polynucleotides penetrate the layers of the skin and trigger a series of healing processes: Increased collagen production, improved blood flow, reduced redness, accelerated repair of micro-injuries and restoration of the skin’s natural protective barrier. These results intensify over weeks, which is why the treatment is so strongly associated with Korean aesthetics: Soft, gradual and science-based.

The big advantage is that this is structural repair, not a temporary cosmetic effect. Even patients dealing with rosacea, acne scars, thin and delicate skin or fine lines under the eyes report significant improvement.

The reason the treatment has gained so much trust is the nature of the injection: Delicate micro-papules that usually disappear within a few hours. There are no significant bruises and no interruption of routine activity. Most patients return to their daily lives the same day, and the skin continues to improve. Bar Refaeli, as mentioned, came to an event with smooth and glowing facial skin the day after undergoing this injection.

The treatment plan usually includes three consecutive sessions, spaced 3–4 weeks apart. After that, a maintenance injection once every six months to a year preserves the results.

Millions of Treatments and a Groundbreaking European Approval

Behind the trend stand particularly impressive numbers: More than 15 million REJURAN syringes have been injected worldwide. The approval received this year from the European health agency marked an official breakthrough, opening the global market far beyond Asia.

In Korea, this has been a skincare standard for a decade, and now the West is adopting it at a rapid pace.

In Israel, the treatment was introduced by “Omegamedics” and is available at licensed physicians’ clinics throughout Israel. With the treatment entering the local market, experts estimate it is expected to become one of the most in-demand treatments of 2025–2026.
