We are always happy to return to Me, Ma, Mu, a small chain of burger restaurants that offer a high standard of the classic fast food beloved by – almost – everyone.

According to Google, the restaurant offers “casual fast food with an American flavor.”
The burgers are made from prime Israeli beef, ground on site and served on lightly toasted buns with a top-secret sauce.

We arrived at our favorite branch in Kiryat Ono for lunch and found it as spotlessly clean as always. The manager, Yosef, greeted us with glasses of ice-cold water as we sat down at the bare wooden table in eager anticipation.

We left the choice of food to Yosef, which wasn’t really that difficult, as there are basically burgers and chicken sticks. You can ask for your burger to be cooked to the preferred degree – rare, medium, or well done – but other than that, it’s fairly standard.

Meals are served on disposable cardboard trays, and the diner collects them from the counter. Everything is self-service, which is convenient. On the table are large bottles of ketchup and Tabasco sauce, but it’s the little helpings of various sauces that make the burgers special.

The sauces are yellow curry, truffle aioli, pesto, chipotle, mayo, and chili. All are freshly prepared and really add to the enjoyment of the meat.

Digging in

We each received a burger – one of beef, the other chicken – in a soft bun. Besides the small helpings of sauces, there were pickles, red cabbage, onion, and coleslaw additions.

The burgers came with sides of standard French fries and onion rings. They were not exactly haute cuisine but certainly acceptable (NIS 55).

Yosef also sent over a box of fried chicken sticks in a crispy coating, which, he informed us proudly, was made from crushed nachos and cornflakes. They were juicy and succulent and tasted even better when dipped in the various sauces (NIS 59).

We ordered our usual drinks – a beer for my companion (NIS 19) and a diet Sprite for me (NIS 12). Who needs wine in the middle of the day?

Two desserts are on offer, which we really didn’t need after such a filling meal, but with our readers in mind we partook of a chocolate roll – a kind of crepe filled with chocolate cream. It was actually better than expected.

The good news is that the chain has grand plans for expansion, and new branches are set to open in several towns very soon.
