A man died and two others were hospitalized in serious condition following extreme temperatures in Eilat and Beersheba on Wednesday.

The Joseftal Hospital in Eilat reported that an approximately 70-year-old man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after he collapsed on the street, but attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Shortly afterward, a second man in his 60s collapsed near the Hatzeva junction on Highway 90. He was taken to the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, where he remains on a ventilator.

Magen David Adom paramedic Moti Suissa, who arrived at the scene, said, “A private vehicle drove in with an around 60-year-old man who was unconscious and showing signs of heatstroke.”

“We provided life-saving medical treatment, which included intensive cooling, respiratory sedation, and medication, and evacuated him by helicopter to the hospital.”

Earlier in the afternoon, a third 70-year-old man lost consciousness at a public park in Lod due to heatstroke. He was taken to the Shamir Medical Center in Tzrifin, where his condition remains serious.

Heatwave in Israel breaks temperature records

According to the Israel Meteorological Service, the current heatwave in the country has broken decades-old temperature records and brought unprecedented overnight heat.

On Tuesday night, a new national record was set for the Mount Sdom area by the Dead Sea, with the minimum temperature reaching 36.6° Celsius, surpassing the previous record of 35.5°.

Eilat and Yotvata also set new records, with temperatures reaching 35.8° and 33.7° at night, respectively. Gush Dan had an extremely hot evening set at 30° and 82% humidity.
