Highway 4 was closed between the Aluf Sade interchange and the Em Moshavot interchange in both directions, police noted, adding that traffic south of the Em Moshavot interchange is being redirected to Petah Tikva.

The highway reopened on Sunday evening, police updated.

Video footage shared by Walla appears to show Border Police officers attempting to disperse the protesters, who are blocking vehicles from passing by sitting in the road.

Police officers arrested at least three of the protesters, the police later confirmed.

Border Police officer suspended after video appears to show irresponsible violence, slapping, choking protester

One Border Police officer was filmed appearing to slap and choke a teenage protester, before throwing him to the floor, in video footage shared on social media.

Police Commissioner Inspector-General Daniel Levi ordered an immediate investigation and suspended the officer until the investigation into the incident is complete, Israel Police confirmed.

An earlier anti-draft haredi protest blocked the highway near Ashkelon earlier on Sunday, but the road was quickly reopened after police arrived at the scene and dispersed protesters.

A similar protest by the group occurred on Monday at the same location.
