Australia's governor-general will issue an invitation to President Isaac Herzog to visit the country "as soon as possible," Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in a phone call with the president on Tuesday.

Herzog confirmed he would accept the invitation, noting that the president of the Zionist Federation of Australia had also extended an invitation, according to the President's Office.

During the phone call, Herzog and Albanese discussed the Bondi Beach terror attack.

Albanese expressed "profound shock and dismay" over the attack, which occurred at the popular Sydney beachside on the first night of Hanukkah, the President's Office noted.

Herzog also conveyed his "profound condolences" to the families of victims, and wished for a speedy recovery for the injured, his office added.
