Two teenagers were indicted on Wednesday for the reckless homicide of 14-year-old Ori Portal last month.

On June 7, one of the defendants, 17, stole the keys to the safe in his parents’ house and took out the gun and magazine that was there and belonged to his father. His parents were not aware of his actions.

The next day, on June 8, he arrived at school and met some of his friends, including the other defendant, a 14-year-old eighth grader, and the victim. He let them hold the gun and the magazine. The 14-year-old even pocketed some of the bullets.

The group then moved toward the area of the sand dunes in Rishon Lezion, close to the Yes Planet zone, to shoot the gun. The 17-year-old showed the 14-year-old how to use it, and handed him the gun. He then shot one bullet toward the target area they agreed on.

Portal then approached the 14-year-old and asked for the gun. He turned around to face him, and accidentally pulled the trigger, striking him from too close a range, and hit him in the chest.

The defendants tried to save Portal's life with CPR

Portal dropped to the ground, as the two defendants attempted CPR on him, while the 17-year-old was on the phone to Magen David Adom to report the incident. Two other members of the group who were there fled the scene at this point.

Emergency medical personnel arrived just a few minutes later and evacuated Portal to the hospital, where he was eventually pronounced dead.
