Israel’s National Security Council has called on all Israelis abroad to avoid attending Passover events that are not secured or are held in open/public spaces.

In a Public Advisory on Wednesday, the NSC said that the ongoing war with Iran is increasing the threat of terrorism against Israelis abroad. It reaffirmed its assessment that the Iranian regime will intensify efforts to carry out attacks abroad against both Israeli and Jewish targets.

NSC cited recent attacks in Belgium and the Netherlands as evidence that Iran, its proxies, and lone extremists pose an increased risk to Jewish communities.

The Passover holiday period (as well as other important dates such as Shavuot, Memorial Day, and Independence Day), include gatherings of Israelis abroad, which constitutes potential targets for terrorist attacks. Therefore, the NSC calls on all Israelis staying abroad to take increased precautions and avoid public Passover events.

It also recommended that Jews and Israelis avoid participating in events – including holiday meals – when traveling in countries surrounding Iran (Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, the UAE, and Gulf states), due to concerns they may be targeted for kinetic attacks by Iranian elements.

Regarding Asia, particularly Thailand, India, and the Philippines, the public is advised to take increased precautionary measures while staying in these countries.

The NSC strongly recommends that Israelis avoid staying in Sinai except for transit to or from Taba Airport. It also recommended that people avoid connecting flights in countries with a Level 4 (high) threat warning as much as possible.

NSC publishes guidelines for Jews abroad over Passover

In terms of personal security measures, the NSC published the following five guidelines.

First, avoid posting real-time information on social media about your location, accommodation, travel plans, or any details that could reveal current or future whereabouts.

Second, avoid visiting unsecured events or locations identified with Israel or Jewish communities.

Third, remain alert to your surroundings when staying in locations associated with Israel or Jewish life (Chabad houses, synagogues, restaurants), with particular attention to unusual activity (suspicious objects or individuals).

Fourth, report threats or attacks immediately to local security forces

Fifth, avoid entering areas with a hostile attitude toward Israelis and Jews, such neighborhoods, districts, and markets in regions with anti-Israel sentiment.
