The German Navy successfully completed a dual trial of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI)'s Naval Lora ballistic missile on Tuesday night, as part of the German Navy's Operational Experimentation (OPEX).
During the trial launches, the missile "was launched to its trajectory, navigated its course to the target, and hit it with utmost precision," IAI said in a press release.
German naval chief, Vice-Admiral Jan Christian Kaack, said that the successful launch "made naval history."
"I am extremely pleased with this achievement," he added.
Kaack described the missile's potential range as exceeding "anything we have known before.
"For the protection of Germany and our allies, this test represents a new chapter in terms of deterrence and defense readiness at sea," Kaack said.
German test of IAI missile is 'unprecedented achievement'
The response to the successful trial from the Israeli side was also enthusiastic.
“This is an unprecedented achievement for IAI and the Israeli Ministry of Defense," IAI Chairman Boaz Levy said. "This trial demonstrates Israel’s technological strength and the unique cooperation between Israel and Germany. It marks another significant achievement alongside the deployment of the Arrow 3 system on German soil, further strengthening Germany’s defense and deterrence capabilities and deepening the strategic partnership between our two countries.”
Guy Bar Lev, IAI's CEO, also expressed pride in the partnership between Germany and Israel, saying that the trial "underscored" the two countries' strategic cooperation.
