About two months after it unveiled its new iPhone models, Apple added a new product to the store – one that isn’t entirely clear whether it’s a joke, an artistic collaboration, or simply another way to charge a few more hundred dollars for something you already have at home. Its name: iPhone Pocket.

Yes, it’s essentially a sock for the iPhone – the result of a collaboration with the Japanese fashion house ISSEY MIYAKE – designed to carry the iPhone, AirPods, and other “everyday objects.” In other words: A sophisticated fabric pouch. According to Apple, it is an accessory meant to “allow you to wear the iPhone your way.” According to everyone else – a sock.

The knitted pocket is made of a three-dimensional elastic fabric that covers the device almost completely but allows you to peek at the screen through the weave. If this sounds familiar, you probably once saw the iPod Sock – only here it’s a more luxurious version, with a price tag of NIS 149.95 for the short model and NIS 229.95 for the long model. The difference between them? About 20 cm of fabric.

It comes in eight colors for the short version and three for the long version, all coordinated of course with the iPhone colors, so you can feel there is some logic behind the purchase.

Yes, you read that right – almost NIS 1,000 for an iPhone sock. Apple describes it as “a new way to carry your device,” but it’s probably just another way to remind us that there is no limit to what can be sold when it comes with an apple logo.

If you feel your device isn’t getting enough warmth and love in a regular jeans pocket, the iPhone Pocket is available in select Apple stores. Who knows – maybe one day they’ll invent a Pro version for this too.
