Here it happens again. August packed itself away, autumn is approaching on tiptoes, and we suddenly remember that we also have skin. Ah, right, that sensitive creature we carry with us all year, but in the summer, how shall we put it, we pay it a little less attention. Unfortunately, the summer didn’t leave us with much choice: The sun took a little more than we agreed to give, the humidity cooperated with our sweat glands, and the air pollution settled on our faces as if it were a shared apartment. And as always, autumn arrives to pick up the pieces. Or in other words – welcome to the transition season. Too bad it’s only here for a few weeks.

But this is exactly the moment to start. It’s time for a restart, refreshment, and balance. Not to shine or to look good in photos (okay, also for that), but because the body in general and the skin in particular need it. So how do we bring the skin back to balance?

“The goal is not to beautify the surface, but to restore the entire biological system to functioning. When we understand that, beauty also returns on its own,” says Hava Zingboim, owner of the cosmetics empire that bears her name.

What damage is caused to the skin in summer?

“During the summer months the skin deals with intense UV radiation, high heat, sweat, dust, and air pollution. All of these together create several major effects: Damage to the epidermal barrier – localized dryness alongside shiny skin, damage to the balance of lipids and sebum. Pigmentation – appearance of new spots or worsening of existing ones. Oxidative stress – free radicals that accelerate premature aging processes. Thickening of the stratum corneum – the skin’s natural protective response, but one that blocks penetration of active ingredients and causes a rough, dull texture.”

How can the skin be restored to proper function before winter?

“The key is a restorative routine that includes cleansing, renewal, balance, and deep hydration.”

Zingboim speaks of five things:

1. Biological renewal – reintroducing gentle acids into the routine, which help controlled exfoliation of the keratinocytes accumulated in summer.

2. Retinol in an adapted dose – known as the most effective restorative ingredient. In winter, when the sun is milder, it can be gradually incorporated to improve texture, smooth fine lines, and stimulate repair mechanisms.

3. Advanced brightening ingredients – such as niacinamide, arbutin, and azelaic acid, which help unify skin tone.

4. Restoration of the epidermal barrier – micronized hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and biosignal peptides that strengthen the skin’s defense system and enable it to cope with winter dryness.

5. Daily protection even in winter – even in winter UVA rays penetrate and accelerate aging, so it’s advisable to protect against them, as well as blue light and screen radiation, which are important in preventing pigmentation.

Morning: Gentle cleansing with a balanced pH soap, brightening serum (niacinamide / azelaic), moisturizing cream rich in micronized hyaluronic acid, urea, and antioxidants, and last but not least – UV+ sunscreen.

Evening: Thorough but adapted cleansing, lactic acid or glycolic acid or mandelic acid twice–three times a week, retinol serum (gradually), and a restorative cream with ceramides, micronized collagen, and peptides.

So what did we learn today? When the sun doesn’t ask for permission, the humidity doesn’t bring a towel, and our skin is left to deal with the consequences, we must rely on autumn, which may not promise miracles, but offers an opening for repair. With a little cleansing, a lot of nourishment, and tons of patience – it’s possible to restore every good patch, even if it seems lost to you.
