A unique concept store design for the Israeli chain Story, a special and distinctive company that emphasizes a concept and narrative behind every brand it brings, a company with values that we all know.

When the idea came up to create a new concept store that would serve as the flagship store of the chain, the thinking was to give a nod to the visual language of the chain's stores (which includes the use of industrial materials, a tile grid) and to create a new concept that speaks the company’s values, with an emphasis on sustainability, recycling, and fair consumption culture.

As part of the discussed concept, it was decided that the planning and execution of the store and the selected and manufactured finishes would be made primarily from natural or recycled materials. The result is a store composed of approximately 47% natural or recycled materials.

“We wrapped the storefront and the interior walls with a type of natural plaster by the company Buz, made only from natural materials, and the plaster is applied over natural Ofakim terracotta tiles,” says designer Uri Donitz. “Additionally, some of the carpentry and metalwork items—and of course the blocks—were made from recycled materials. The combination of natural materials alongside industrial and innovative items connects harmoniously and tells the story of the store and the chain.”

The store was designed in a modular and functional way using removable shelving that can be altered and replaced by elements specially designed and created for the store.

The center of the space is divided by the cashier area and the shoe section, which create a kind of separation between the zones. These two functions are connected to a metal ceiling integrated with screens, and are linked together by a lighting element.

“At the entrance to the store, we placed an iconic hanging element resembling a dry-cleaning installation that hints at classic industry, combined with a screen at the top of the structure. The lower part was clad with a stage made from natural terracotta.

“In addition, on the other side of the entrance, we placed a dolev (bin) intended for recycling used clothing from the brand. The dolev has a hole where more items can be added and serves the conceptual agenda practically, turning recycled clothing into an artistic element.”

“Inside the space, we integrated several traditional handmade carpets in order to create contrast between the clean materiality and bold color, adding another layer of textural content to the overall experience of the space.

“We placed great emphasis on the signage details and the brand profiling in the store, which are an integral part of the design language of the whole.”
