We all want to discover more about ourselves, and optical illusions are a great way to do that. They’re not just fun—they can uncover some of our deepest, even darkest personality traits that we might keep buried, even from ourselves. Marina Neuralean shared a “psychological test” where she presented an image, and what you saw first in the image says a lot about you.

Just like Rorschach tests are used by psychologists to analyze a patient’s character, optical illusions can be a fun way to dive deeper into your psyche because you're forced to rely on your instincts.

So, what do you see first in the image?

Marina explained: “This image is a classic double illusion where you can either see two faces (a man and a woman) looking at each other, or an apple core.” She shared that “what you notice first has great meaning about your state of mind.”

If you saw the faces first

That means you are a logical and analytical person with a strong moral compass. You think before you act, value stability, and solve problems creatively—but sometimes curiosity gets the best of you, so you may want to think before you act—especially when it comes to big decisions.

If you saw the apple core first

You are intuitive, emotionally aware, and great at reading subtle cues. You know the right thing to say, but often stay quiet. Stability matters to you, and you protect what’s important.

In the comments, people shared what they saw first, and many said it was “spot on.” Neurylyan posts many such tests on social media, including one that recently showed whether you're more of a positive person or rather reserved. She shared an image in which you could either see a waterfall or a bear, and explained what it means if you see each of these things.

If you saw the waterfall first

“If the waterfall was the first thing you noticed, it means you open up easily and form new connections quickly,” she shared, saying this means “you see yourself as an open person.” You have a “lightness” and “simplicity” that draws others in. You’re also “great listeners and give genuinely helpful advice.”

However, there may be a downside to this, as others might see you as too positive, to the point that they think you have no problems at all. That’s because when others come to you with their issues, you’re always there to listen and help. But when it comes to your own problems, you prefer to deal with them alone. And while you take pride in your independence, deep down, you wish you had someone to lean on and share your struggles with.

If you saw the panda first

“If you see a bear or panda first, you’re the opposite of the previous description,” Marina shared. You may “seem sweet and friendly on the outside, but you don’t let people into your heart easily.” Typically, “it takes you a long time to trust someone, and you have a hard time letting go of past hurts.” Marina shared that this may be due to “past traumatic experiences” where you were “betrayed or deceived,” so now you choose to “keep your distance.”

But this isn’t always “a bad thing,” because it “shows you’ve learned from your past.” It also means you’re “careful not to repeat the same mistakes” you made before, so it’s understandable why you might be guarded.
