A large pillar of smoke was seen rising from the Kalleh dairy factory in Amol, northern Iran, on Monday afternoon.

This occurred after an explosion was reported in the area.

Kalleh is one of the largest dairy producers in Iran.

The mayor of Amol spoke to the Mazandaran Broadcasting Agency, claiming that a section of the factory was undergoing repair before sparks from a welding accident caused a fire, which spread across the facility.

Explosion likely accidental due to welding accident, not linked to nationwide protests

The Mazandaran Province governor is coordinating with the Interior Ministry and relevant Tehran institutions to coordinate support arriving from neighboring cities as the fire continues to blaze, the Iran Broadcasting Authority (IRIB) cited.

The explosion is likely not linked to protest activity, which has been occurring across Iran for the past nine days.
