The US State Department's Farsi account on Sunday published a picture of President Donald Trump along with the caption, "Don't play games with President Trump," written in red text in Farsi.

The post featured a picture of Trump alongside US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with other officials standing behind them, and contained an additional warning that "President Trump is a man of action. If you didn't know, now you know."

On Saturday, the same post was made on the State Department's English-language account.

Trump's message about the possibility of dealing with the regime in a similar way to what he did on Saturday with the US Army's special forces unit, known as Delta Force, capturing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, appeared to influence the Iranian protesters.

This comes as reports by British outlet The Times noted that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has an "escape plan" to flee to Russia with other senior officials, including his son Mojtaba.

Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday that "if they [the Iranian regime] kill people, as they have done in the past, they will be hit hard by the United States."

London-based anti-regime outlet Iran International reported that at least 16 people have been identified following being killed during the protests, as of Saturday.

Human Rights Activists News Agency noted that the number is likely higher, according to their reporting.

"At least 222 locations in 78 cities across 26 provinces have witnessed protests. During these events, at least 990 citizens have been arrested, and at least 19 protesters have lost their lives," HRANA wrote in their wrap on events at the end of Sunday's protest activity.

The protests have now reached their ninth day as of Monday.
