Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem rejected the idea that his terror organization will disarm following mounting pressure, claiming that the US seeks to impose a new deal that includes disarmament, Hezbollah-affiliated network Al-Mayadeen reported.
He said that the US "wants to impose a new agreement that absolves Israel of its violations over the past eight months, the first step of which would be disarmament."
Qassem added that the "US administration is coordinating the war with Israel and working to expand its influence in the region."
He claimed that Hezbollah adhered to the ceasefire by "implement[ing] everything we were required to do under the agreement, and Israel did none of that."
Qassem added: “Lebanon faces three real dangers: Israel in the south, ISIS proxies on the country's eastern border, and the American tyrants.”
He then said that the initial ceasefire agreement was in Lebanon's interest, and therefore believed that "it needed to be amended.
"We are ready to defend ourselves if Israel attacks us in a way that we believe calls for us to action," he added. "We will not be humiliated. We have made great sacrifices, and our strength has helped us achieve this result. As long as we are alive, Israel will not achieve its goals."
What's going to happen with the ceasefire?
The current ceasefire scheme between Israel and Lebanon establishes that Hezbollah (and any armed group in the country) must dismantle its operations in southern Lebanon.
The ceasefire went into effect in late November of last year.
