Abdel Hay Zaqout, a member of the Izzadin al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s so-called military wing, died two weeks ago in the strike on the vehicle in which senior Hamas leader Ra’ad Sa’ad was killed, IDF Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee reported Wednesday.
Zaqout, who worked in the terrorist group’s finance department, was killed as part of a joint IDF and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) operation, he wrote on X/Twitter.
Zaqout lived in Gaza City and was responsible for recruiting and transferring tens of millions of dollars to Izzadin al-Qassam to support its operations against Israel, Adraee said.
“The IDF and the Shin Bet will continue their efforts to disrupt the financing of terrorism and will act against all those involved in terrorism or in providing assistance to plan and carry out terrorist attacks against the State of Israel,” he added.
Senior Hamas commander Ra'ad Sa'ad
Two weeks ago, the IDF announced the killing of Sa’ad, one of the most senior Izzadin al-Qassam terrorists, in a targeted strike.
Sa’ad had recently been involved in attempts to rehabilitate Hamas’s weapons production capabilities, the IDF said.
The IDF strike on Sa’ad came in response to an attack on IDF troops in the Gaza Strip using an improvised explosive device, sources within the Military Intelligence Directorate said. Two soldiers were lightly wounded in the attack.
