In the wake of recent attacks on Israel by Iran, which have tragically impacted homes in cities like Haifa, Bat Yam, Tel Aviv, Colel Chabad has immediately sprung into action. As Israel's oldest continuously operating charities, Colel Chabad has an extensive network of social workers who serve as food security coordinators in municipalities across the country.

These dedicated coordinators have swiftly pivoted their efforts to provide emergency relief to families who have lost everything. Upon arriving at temporary accommodations, such as hotels arranged by local municipalities, affected individuals are greeted not only with a warm embrace but also with an emergency relief gift card with 3,000 Shekel value on it.

“These acts of kindness and support are a true international display of unity,” says Rabbi Sholom Duchman, Director of Colel Chabad, highlighting how this initiative is a beautiful expression of global Jewish solidarity.

Menachem Traxler of Colel Chabad who was distributing these emergency gift cards at the NYX Tel Aviv Hotel, shared an emotional experience: in the middle of the distribution, a siren went off, and everyone had to rush to the shelters. Despite being surrounded by families who had lost everything, Menachem noted a profound sense of resilience among them. This resilience, displayed by these families, is truly inspiring and reverberates around the world, giving Jews everywhere a renewed sense of strength and unity.

These gift cards, a lifeline in a time of need, are made possible through a partnership between Israeli donors, facilitated by  Guy Lerer of HaTzinor TV show and international donors from Colel Chabad supporters around the world. With these cards, families can immediately purchase essentials like clothing, toiletries, phone chargers, eyeglasses, and other necessities—no questions asked. This compassionate approach, part of the Otfim project initiated after October 7, ensures that those affected receive support in the most loving and dignified way possible.

Colel Chabad is uniquely positioned to lead this effort, due to the extensive infrastructure it already has in place from its ongoing activities reaching over 50,000 households every single month.
