An Israeli woman was identified as missing after the New Year's Eve party fire in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana, the Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.
The Foreign Ministry also said that it is in contact with the woman's family and is working with local authorities to find her whereabouts.
The fire during the New Year's Eve party left 40 official victims, with seven people still missing, and 115 injured, authorities confirmed.
Among them are citizens from around the world, including Italy, France, and Australia, as the club attracts many wealthy tourists from across Europe.
Fire disaster at Swiss club
The fire started after what investigators called "careless use of fireworks" inside the crowded club. Eyewitness reports say a waitress was carrying a bottle of champagne with a lit firecracker on her colleague's shoulders and raised it too high, setting the wooden ceiling of the "Le Constellation" club on fire.
Most of the club's occupants were between the ages of 15 and 20 years old, with the first of the victims being identified as Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old Italian international golfer who lived in Dubai, according to Reuters.
"I have been searching for my son for 30 hours. The wait is unbearable," Laetitia, the mother of missing 16-year-old Arthur, told BFM TV, saying she was desperate to know if he was alive or dead, and where, the news agency reported.
The eyewitnesses also reported that the flames and smoke triggered panic inside the club, leading to a stampede at the exit near a single narrow staircase. "It was a horror movie," they described.
Switzerland declared five days of national mourning for the victims, with authorities taking DNA samples and dental records to identify everyone who lost their lives during the disaster.
