Former hostages Matan Zangauker and Ilana Gritzwesky announced their engagement in an X post published by Zangauker’s mother, Einav, on Sunday.
“My victory, Matan and Ilana,” published Einav, alongside a picture of the couple and a large sign that read, “Will you marry me?”
The news comes a couple of months after Zangauker was freed from Gaza, where he spent 738 days under Hamas’s captivity. Gritzwesky was also taken hostage on October 7, and was subsequently freed on November 30, 2023.
Gritzwesky's fake wedding demanding Zangauker's freedom
Gritzwesky held a mock wedding during a demonstration at Hostages Square in Tel Aviv, calling for Zangauker’s freedom, wearing a wedding dress under a chuppah with his photo.
“Matan. If you weren’t taken, we could’ve been married. I don’t stop thinking about what was taken from us in just one day. Our world was changed, and you were taken from me,” Gritzwesky said.
“You’re not here to hug me, and I’m not there to keep you strong,” she said. “I’m fighting for you until you return, you and all of the hostages. We will bring you back alive, heal together, and god willing, build our home together in Israel.”
