The Hostages' family forum strongly recommended US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in a letter to the Nobel Prize Committee on Monday.

“We strongly urge you to award President Trump the Nobel Peace Prize because he has vowed he will not rest and will not stop until every last hostage is back home,” the letter stated.

In the letter, the families stated that the US President's involvement is key to the ongoing negotiations, adding that “President Trump’s determination to bring peace made possible what many said was impossible.”

The families said their message comes at what they described as a “critical turning point,” nearly two years after Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, in which 48 hostages remain in captivity in Gaza. They added that this has given them hope that “the nightmare may soon be over.”

Trump had written to the hostages' family forum, two years after the hostages were abducted, that his administration was “steadfastly committed to seeing an end to this conflict”. Trump had also written in the same letter:

“My entire administration has been touched by the fact that, through the unimaginable pain and suffering of spending two years not knowing where your loved ones are, you have continued telling their stories and advocating on their behalf.”

Trump thanks hostage families for nomination

Trump went on to also give his “sincerest thanks” to the forum for its nomination to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, a civil organization advocating for the release of those still held in Gaza, said the appeal reflects the families’ hope that Trump’s diplomatic involvement could help bring their loved ones home.
