Jerusalem District police seized an illegally held owl from a locked car in the Beit Hanina neighborhood of Jerusalem on Sunday.

The owl was transferred to the Israel Nature and Parks Authority for further treatment.

The officers worked in cooperation with the municipal veterinary service, and bomb disposal experts from the Jerusalem District were called to assist in the rescue.

Police have cracked down on illegally held animals over the past several months. Usually, the cases include monkeys and lion cubs.

In April, police found an owl and 11 lizards.
