European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Tuesday she wants Europe to stop buying oil from Russia by the end of the year.

"Trump is absolutely right. We're on it," she said.

The two spoke on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. In a later statement, von der Leyen said that she wanted the EU to stop buying Russian fossil fuels for good by 2027.

"We agreed on the need to cut Russia’s revenues from fossil fuels, and fast. This is precisely what Europe is doing with our 19th package of sanctions," she wrote. "We tighten the pressure, banning imports of Russian LNG into European markets and targeting refineries, oil traders, and refineries in third countries.

"By 2027, Europe will have turned the page on Russian fossil fuels for good."

Trump says NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they enter NATO airspace

Von der Leyen added that she and Trump discussed the "Kremlin’s provocations," such as the repeated incursions into NATO's airspace.

"These are clear attempts to test our response," she said.

In response to the Kremlin's incursions, Trump said that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they enter NATO airspace.

"Yes I do," Trump told reporters when asked about whether he would support the move.
