Conservative commentator Candace Owens published a series of X updates on Wednesday, November 26, claiming new leads in the September 10 shooting at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, in which Charlie Kirk was killed.

Owens said travelers she labels “Egyptians” stayed at the La Quinta Inn & Suites on University Parkway from September 4 to 13, pressed for an on-record answer on whether French Legionnaires were present at UVU, and invited locals to send surveillance clips to her team. The assertions were made on her account and have not been independently verified.

Owens amplified a satirical video, saying dark humor helps “cope,” then asked reporters to press the White House and France’s Élysée Palace on alleged Legionnaire presence, calling it “straightforward to confirm or deny.”

Afterwards, she rejected claims she is profiting from Kirk’s death, contrasting her podcast with fundraising by Turning Point USA, and said even an on-record denial would be useful to “see how deep this thing goes.”

A few hours later, she cited a “booking process” insider to claim the “Egyptians” stayed at the La Quinta in Orem from September 4 to 13 and asked businesses to check cameras and receipts, sharing a tip line email. She later implied that if the FBI had already collected footage, it would feed suspicions of a cover-up. Authorities have not commented on her latest posts.

French angle, revived

Owens’s push for answers from Paris follows her recent allegation that President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, ordered a French, “Israeli-linked” hit team to assassinate her, a claim The Jerusalem Post reported last week while noting there was no evidence or official confirmation.

She has also been in a months-long legal clash with the French first couple. In July, the Macrons filed a 22-count defamation lawsuit in the United States over Owens’s videos about the first lady, placing her at the center of a high-profile dispute with the Élysée.

In June, Owens alleged that veteran Israeli rabbi Shlomo Riskin’s circle “paid pastors” to denounce her and Tucker Carlson, a claim Rabbi Kenneth Brander of Ohr Torah Stone publicly denied. The row illustrated how Owens’s rhetoric has repeatedly drawn rebuttals from mainstream Jewish figures.

Owens, Kirk, and the movement

Owens has previously inserted herself into the Kirk saga. In October, she leaked messages in which Kirk criticized Jewish donors and wrote he had “no choice but to leave the pro-Israel cause,” a story that ran after Kirk had been assassinated and had become a symbol to allies and critics alike. Her new posts accuse others of exploiting his legacy even as she frames her effort as crowd-sourced accountability.

Owens ended one of Wednesday’s posts by saying an on-record denial by authorities “will be good for humanity,” adding, “We need to see how deep this thing goes."
