Chen G. Schimmel is an Israel-based photojournalist whose lens has become one of the defining witnesses of October 7 and its aftermath. Since that day, she has documented Kibbutz Be’eri, Gaza, and the northern front, capturing the experiences of hostage families, evacuees, survivors, and soldiers. Her images insist on dignity amid devastation, holding together tragedy and humanity in a nation under fire.
From the earliest weeks of the war, Schimmel has personally taken her photographic exhibition, October 7th: Bearing Witness, across continents. She has stood on stages, spoken to global audiences, and entered communities abroad, carrying these stories with her and opening conversations about grief, courage, and responsibility. Her debut book, October 7th: Bearing Witness, documents the tragedy and resilience of a people, and directs all proceeds to trauma rehabilitation programs.
