At least 14 people have been killed, and 12 are missing after heavy rains across South Korea over the past four days, the government announced on Sunday morning, state news agency Yonhap confirmed.

Six of the fatalities and seven of those confirmed missing occurred in Sancheong County, in the south of the country, Yonhap added.

A landslide that was triggered by the heavy rains caused three houses to collapse, burying four, in Gapyeong, Yonhap added.

Three of those buried were rescued, but one, a woman in her 70s, was found dead.

Almost 13,000 people have taken shelter across 14 major cities and provinces, Yonhap added.
