Hanukkah candles were lit by the Socialist Left Party and Jewish Voices for Just Peace in Oslo last Thursday in honor of the Palestinian people and those murdered in the Bondi Beach massacre.
Socialist Left Party leader Kristi Bergsto said at the candle lighting that the ceremony was conducted "for the people of Palestine and the victims there, but also those who were killed because they were Jews in Australia."
Those gathered at Eidsvoll Square were against occupation, racism, and antisemitism, the parliamentarian said in a video uploaded to their Instagram account.
"The commemoration emphasizes the fight for the liberation of all people and against antisemitism and racism," wrote the party. "Values that know no boundaries based on religion or ethnicity, but that we can and must all unite around. No one is free until everyone is free."
JVJP board member Mirjam Abrahamsen said that the holiday marked "light, hope, resistance, and miracle" and urged not to use antisemitic attacks to make political points.
Bondi Beach tragedy creates fear in Norway
Bergsto had also said last Monday that the Sydney terrorist attack last Sunday had created fear among Jews in Norway.
"It should be safe to be Jewish in Australia, in Norway, everywhere. We all have that responsibility," Bergsto wrote on social media.
