Wolt is expanding the shared ordering experience in Israel and launching Group Order to all customers, a new feature that allows a group of people to order together from the same restaurant or business, where each participant selects their items from their personal device and pays only for their portion. Israel is the first country in the world where Wolt is launching this new option, following a pilot conducted among Wolt Benefits users.
The need for the feature stems from existing usage of the platform: According to Wolt data, about 8% of orders are group orders. Until now, such an order usually required one person to collect the choices, pay for everyone, and then chase after refunds. Now Wolt is trying to make this process simpler – without manual calculations, without switching between payment apps, and without splitting bills at the end of the meal.
Using Group Order, one of the participants opens a shared order and sends a link or QR code to the rest of the group. Each participant joins the order, adds their dishes or products, can track the order from their own device, and at the payment stage is charged only for their portion. Behind the scenes operates a real-time synchronization system, which allows multiple users to simultaneously edit the same order, so that any change is immediately updated for everyone.
The feature has already been tested under Wolt Benefits, Wolt's solution for organizations to manage employee dining budgets. The service allows employees to continue ordering through the Wolt app, and later also to make physical purchases via Tap To Pay at thousands of businesses across the country. Wolt notes that hundreds of companies have already joined the service, including Lemonade, Wonderful, HiBob, Lightricks, and PayBox.
Now, after the corporate pilot, Wolt is opening the option to all its customers in Israel – from lunch for office employees to a viewing evening with friends.
Dor Gabison, Head Of Wolt Benefits Israel, stated: "The Group Order feature illustrates exactly the advantage of Wolt Benefits: To turn a daily need of employees and organizations into a simple experience. Employees order together all the time, but until today it required coordination, calculations, and splitting bills. Now every employee can join a shared order from their device, choose what suits them, and pay separately from their personal dining budget. We are happy to expand the feature now to all customers of the Wolt platform in Israel."
