Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of Defense Israel Katz, and other senior officials from several government ministries visited last week the Mitzpe Kmehin outpost, located near the Egyptian border and operated by female national service volunteers from the HaShomer HaChadash organization. The volunteers are continuing the life’s work of Master Sergeant (res.) Liran Almosnino, a farmer who, together with his family and HaShomer HaChadash, established the outpost several years ago and was killed in a heroic battle against terrorists on October 7, with the outbreak of the terror attack.

During the visit, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Minister of Defense Katz received a briefing on the activities at the outpost from Yoel Zilberman, CEO and founder of HaShomer HaChadash. Netanyahu also received a briefing directly from the young women at the outpost, who spoke about their agricultural work and their role in helping to protect the farm area.

The visit to Mitzpe Kmehin was part of a broader tour conducted by Prime Minister Netanyahu in the Negev last week. The volunteers told the Prime Minister that they are continuing the legacy of Liran Almosnino, who established the site, and described their daily routine and ongoing activities.

Zilberman said, “Our young women at Mitzpe Kmehin in the community of Kmehin, near the Egyptian border, are one example of hundreds of young men and women in our pre-military and national service programs who come to take part in agricultural activity and to support farmers in strategic locations throughout the country and along Israel’s borders. At HaShomer HaChHaChadash, we continue to establish new communities and expand ones which have already established in the Negev, in Arad and in Ein Yahav. It is a great privilege for us to continue the path and legacy of Liran, of blessed memory — a *worrior man of the land, and a leader who established agriculture in a location of great strategic importance.”

Zilberman also provided the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense with a briefing on HaShomer HaChadash’s activities in addressing the phenomenon of weapons smuggling via drones from the Egyptian border, as well as on the organization’s broader activities across the country. In turn, they praised the organization’s work and the cooperation between HaShomer HaChadash and the IDF, the Israel Police, the Border Police, and the various government ministries.
