Billionaire scientist and entrepreneur Amnon Shashua, founder and CEO of Mobileye, has been named one of Time magazine’s top AI influencers of 2025.
While Mobileye’s technology does utilize artificial intelligence, Shashua has also become an active player in the AI field through his other ventures.
These include the wearables company OrCam, which utilizes AI to translate images; the digital bank OneZero; and Mentee Robotics, a company that aims to develop AI-powered robots to perform complex tasks in real-world environments.
Taking part in the AI revolution
However, his most ambitious venture thus far is AAI, in which, according to a paper written by its founders, “Artificial Expert Intelligence (AEI) seeks to transcend the limitations of both Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and narrow AI by integrating domain-specific expertise with critical, precise reasoning capabilities akin to those of top human experts.”
In an interview with Globes last year, Shashua stated that the AGI revolution is imminent.
“Unlike the technological waves in the past, in this wave, there are signs that somewhere just around the corner, a broad intelligence will develop here,” he said, “and the intention is that those systems will be able to imitate human intelligence in solving problems.”
A year prior, Shashua told Globes that he wanted an AI to replicate geniuses in STEM fields.
“Can AI imitate the qualities of a great mathematician or physicist? Can it invent the theory of relativity or develop differential calculus as a tool to develop laws like those of Newton?” he asked.
“It is a matter of abstraction that smart people know how to do, and language models have not been trained for this,” the leading AI developer said. “This is the next stage of AI."
