The White House recently published an updated account and commentary regarding the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack on a new webpage on the White House website, released on Tuesday. The commentary praises US President Donald Trump for his actions in the aftermath of the attack and identifies several parties that the administration views as primarily responsible.

The webpage was made public in time for the fifth anniversary of the attack and includes the Trump administration's account of events, outlining a timeline of the day, the federal response, including investigations and prosecutions.

In addition to the updated account of events, the commentary commends President Trump for his actions related to the attack and assigns blame to a variety of parties, including the Democratic Party, along with former vice President Mike Pence, Nancy Pelosi, and the US Capitol Police.

Pelosi is specifically criticized in the commentary for her alleged efforts to shift blame onto Trump for the attack.

“Since January 6, 2021, Nancy Pelosi has spent over three years and nearly $20 million in taxpayer funds on her partisan Select Committee, creating a scripted spectacle to fabricate an ‘insurrection’ narrative and pin all the blame on President Trump,” the commentary states.

Assigning responsibility for the Capitol attack

The webpage commentary also highlights what the White House refers to as Pelosi’s ‘acknowledgment of responsibility.’

It cites videos and audio recordings in which “Nancy Pelosi repeatedly acknowledging responsibility for the catastrophic security failures - admitting ‘We have totally failed' and 'I take full responsibility’ for not having the National Guard pre-deployed, despite intelligence warnings and President Trump’s offers of troops that were ignored under her leadership as Speaker.”

The commentary further criticizes the Democratic Party, accusing them of “masterfully reversing reality” after January 6, and claims they are responsible for election fraud.

“In truth, it was the Democrats who staged the real insurrection by certifying a fraud-ridden election,” the commentary asserts.

Additionally, the commentary highlights the steps Trump took to pardon those involved in the attack, describing the participants of the riot as ‘unfairly targeted’ and ‘weaponized’ by Joe Biden's Department of Justice.

“President Trump corrected a historic wrong, freeing Americans who were unjustly punished and restoring fairness under the law,” the commentary reads.

It adds, “On his first day back in office, January 20, 2025, President Trump issued sweeping blanket pardons and commutations for nearly 1,600 patriotic Americans prosecuted for their presence at the Capitol - many mere trespassers or peaceful protesters treated as insurrectionists by a weaponized Biden DOJ.”

Finally, the webpage addresses accusations that Trump incited the riot, including those from the BBC, which is currently being sued by Trump for altering footage of his public address on January 6. The webpage includes a side-by-side comparison of the original clip of Trump's address and the edited version by the BBC.
